The 2015 Blue Ridge Parkway 'America the Beautiful' 5 oz .999 Fine Silver Coin
The 2015 Blue Ridge Parkway 5 oz. silver 'America the Beautiful' coin is the third issue of 2015 and the 28th release overall in the 'America the Beautiful' quarter program. The Blue Ridge Parkway 5 oz silver bullion coin was created to commemorate the roadway nicknamed 'America's Favorite Drive'. The legislation from Congress in 2008 named America's Beautiful National Park quarter dollar act authorized the creation of a new 5 Troy oz. Silver Bullion Coin to be manufactured along with the standard issue quarter dollar bearing each rotating design.
The obverse (heads) of the coin will depict the immediately recognizable profile image of President George Washington as he appeared on the regular quarter dollar coin beginning in 1932. The reverse, or tails side of the coin, carries a beautiful engraving of the gentle roadway as it hugs the curves and fades off into the upcoming tunnel cut through the mountain side. The North Carolina State Flower -the Dogwood- can be observed in the right foreground of the reverse design. Each coin in this series will be minted using a standard weight of 5 Troy oz. of .999 fine pure silver and have a diameter of 76.2 mm to really show of the intricate design elements.
